There are certain people that come into our life, maybe for a short time, and make a huge impact. For me, one such individual is Donna Tucker. I talk about her now because she is today’s Playlist guest and it was so lovely to see her and catch up. Being a woman in today’s world is so interesting. We are gaining more power, making more money and in some cases even becoming the household breadwinners. Donna has been in the music industry for years, and not just the music industry – the jazz industry, which is predominantly male.

Finding female role models in the music industry that don’t use “sex appeal” to an extreme level is so rare these days. Even more rare – finding a woman in the music industry that isn’t singing about childish things.

I know Cindy Klose likes to joke on the 4 o’clock news about how I don’t like Madonna, but here is a case where I can give an example of why. Madonna, in my opinion, is more of an entertainer. She has not, at least with the latest album, presented a level of maturity that one would hope she might have gained with her years in the industry.  Meanwhile Donna is embracing her years as a musician and is absolutely classy every step of the way.

A friend a while back talked about how Adam Sandler’s movies that weren’t that great made more money than some of his most impactful movies. Sometimes I think music that might not be of the best quality is shooting through the roof with record sales; meanwhile someone like Donna (while she is an international jazz artist) is by no means a household name.

I don’t want to be one of those music critics that try to act like all of my “snobby” music is the best, but music that is about helping people grow and change is sometimes neglected in our society. So much of what we listen to is for distraction or a party song. What happened to letting music affect us in a life-changing way?

With that being said – I want to show you the power of music…this is a video that’s going viral of the power of music. It can truly change our world if open up to it!
