Larry Rachleff, principal conductor and music director of the Evanston-based Chicago Philharmonic for the last 23 years, will leave that post following the orchestra's season finale on May 24. He will become the orchestra's music director emeritus.
The American conductor directs the orchestras at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music in Houston and also serves as music director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic.

Alan Heatherington has announced he is leaving the Lake Forest Symphony in May after 13 years as the orchestra's music director. He will assume an emeritus title following his final performances in his present position, Mahler's Symphony No. 2 (“Resurrection”), which will take place May 17-18 in Grayslake.
He will continue as music director of the Ars Viva Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Master Singers.
