Nominations for best animated film went to “Brave,” “Frankenweenie,” “ParaNorman,” “The Pirates! Band of Misfits” and “Wreck-It Ralph.”
The 85th Academy Awards are scheduled to be held at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland on Feb. 24 and telecast live on ABC.
The ceremony is to include a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond franchise. There had been speculation that “Skyfall,” the series’ most successful film to date, would make the best picture list. Though it failed to get a nod in that category, it did earn five Oscar nominations -- for best score, song, cinematography, sound editing and sound mixing -- a feat unmatched by any other 007 thriller.
Seth MacFarlane of TV’s “Family Guy” is not only this year’s host, but a potential winner. MacFarlane, who announced the nominees Thursday with actress Emma Stone, discovered he was also a nominee in the original song category for writing the lyrics to “Everybody Needs a Best Friend,” from his raunchy hit comedy film, “Ted.”
