Nirvana may have been laid back grunge, but they had something to say to MTV producers. The Seattle group was forbidden to play their song "Rape Me," so they did it anyway -- at least for a few seconds. Not only that, the band went old school after performing their song "Lithium," trashing the stage and speakers after their bassist almost knocked himself out tossing his instrument. Host Dana Carvey acknowledged the end of the performance by saying, "Ladies and gentlemen, the Nirvana ride is officially closed."
