According to Suffolk County police, Michael Lohan, 49, was arrested Monday after violating an order of protection. Lohan is being charged with second-degree contempt, police said.
Details of what led to the order of protection violation charge were not immediately known.
Lohan, who has a lengthy criminal track record, was charged earlier this year for allegedly threatening to murder his ex-girlfriend Erin Muller if she ended their relationship. It is a charge he has publicly denied.
In 2007, the Southampton resident had a short stint in prison after being convicted of attempted assault and driving while intoxicated. He also had a restraining order filed against him by his ex-wife and mother of Lindsay, Dina Lohan, back in 2005.
The arrest adds on to what's an already embarrassing week for the Lohan clan.
Earlier in the week, an Indian activist blasted daughter Lindsay for lying about her role in a raid that freed 40 children involved in a child trafficking operation in India.
The activist, named as Bhuwan, charged that Lindsay wasn't even in the country when the raid happened contrary to what a tweet she posted on her Twitter account.
A spokesperson for the BBC has since responded to the claims, saying that Lohan - who is fronting a documentary about the horrors of child trafficking for the network - was misunderstood and tweeted about the raid as it is the subject of her current project.
Lindsay has been estranged from her father for several years.
