EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (WPIX)
The mother of troubled Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan apparently got into a heated altercation while she was attempting to buy a cake at an East Meadow ice cream shop.
Dina Lohan, a Merrick native, reportedly stopped into the Carvel ice cream store located at Bellmore Ave. Wednesday evening to purchase a cake to celebrate her son Cody's 14th birthday.
When the 47-year-old presented a Carvel VIP card -- modeled after the American Express Black Card and given to only 75 celebrities including Howard Stern and Lindsay Lohan -- the clerk reportedly became aggressive with Lohan.
"The shop assistant said, 'Do you have I.D.?'" Lohan told Radaronline.com. "Next minute, he grabbed my arm and took my card and held it hostage and wouldn't give me the cake!"
It was later revealed that the card presented to the clerk belonged to Lohan's 16-year-old daughter Ali, prompting him to confiscate it and ask for ID.
As a result, the celebrity mom called police claiming the employees of the store were rude and were treating her as though she was using a stolen credit card.
Witnesses said the scene quickly turned chaotic as four police cruisers rolled up to the scene along with a police helicopter that hovered over the area..
A spokesman for the Nassau County Police Department acknowledged there was some sort of discrepancy with the card around 5:15 p.m., but insisted it was nothing criminal. In addition, he said the card was returned to Dina with the instruction that she never use it again.
For its part, Carvel reached out to the Lohan's and apologized for the confusion. However the company said under no circumstances is the card -- which grants 75 free cakes to a select few -- transferable.
