SPRINGFIELD, Mo. --- The search for a light gray 2002 Nissan Maxima with a 1-year-old in the back seat is on following a car theft in North Springfield. It happened this afternoon outside the Save-a-Lot on Commercial Street.

Authorities say a man called them saying his car, the Maxima, had been stolen and his two children, believed to be ages 4 and 1, were in the back seat. Police say the man told them he had left his children inside the car along with the keys.

Authorities have confirmed to KSPR News that the 4-year-old boy was dropped off in the 800 block of S. Newton Avenue in West Springfield. That's just northwest of Grand and Fort near McGregor Elementary.
