A judge has set a $5 million bond for the man suspected of killing two people at a Wichita Dollar General.
Marquis Marshall made his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon. He's charged with capital murder in the deaths of 79-year-old Henry Harvey and 22-year-old Zachary Hunt.
There are several instances when prosecutors can file capital murder charges. One of them is the killing of more than one person in the commission of a crime.
Marshall received a court-appointed attorney. He will be back in court on Dec. 18.
Court documents show Marshall's criminal history started in January 2008 when he was 14-years-old. At the time, he faced charges of aggravated burglary and theft under a thousand dollars.
A year later, Marshall faced another charge. Juvenile records are limited, but FactFinder12 learned his accused crime, if done by an adult, would be considered "criminal use of weapons," a misdemeanor.
This past summer, Marshall was charged with stealing two 12-packs of beer from WalMart. And being in possession of alcohol under the age of 21. This pending case is a felony since Marshall has already been convicted of other thefts.
Officers say they're still investigating Friday's deadly Dollar General Store shooting. But they say they're not getting any help from Marshall.
"We're unable to exactly determine what the motive is. So we're leaving our options for what that is, wide open. It's not limited to anything at this point," Lt. Heimerman said.
Officers arrested Marshall during a Sunday afternoon traffic stop near second and Eerie.
