After a week of NASCAR heads to the wild and crazy short track at Bristol. This is pretty good for Clint Bowyer, he's got an average finish of 16.6 at the bullring. Clint has 5 top 10's in 10 career starts, including a pair of 3rds in 07 and 08. He finished 4th the last time NASCAR made a stop in Tennessee, he's also won in a Nationwide car on Ole Rockey top, which is why Bowyer is looking forward to the weekend.
"I love Bristol," said Clint "It's one of my favorite race tracks. I don't care when it is. It's a fun, wild, energetic and action-packed race. You never know the outcome until the last lap. We're looking forward to it."
He's probley also looking forward to putting the experience of last spring behind, when engine failure put him put out of the race early, with a 40th place finish, home and on the couch in time to watch the last 40 laps on tv.
"Funny story - I was driving and on my way home I about ripped the leather off the steering wheel because I was so mad," said Bowyer. "I pulled in to get gas down the road and the cashier had a little TV behind the counter watching the race. I told him how much money I put in and he looked at me, looked at the TV, looked at me again and said 'why are you here?' I said 'long story; don't ask.' It was actually pretty funny."
As long as he's not on the couch when this one ends this weekend, Bowyer feels like he has a good chance to compete for a win this go round.
"We've run well at Bristol. It's one of my good tracks. I really do think someday we are going to win a Sprint Cup Series race there. Hopefully, it's this year. It's a fun track. It's an endurance thing. You have to get to the end of the race with the fenders still on that thing. You have to keep good track position, not abuse your equipment and also not make mistakes on pit road. If you can do all that, you're going to have a shot at winning."
