So far Bowyer fans, 2011 has been a case of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. As in, as good as Clint has run this season, his cup races have ended Bad and Ugly.
In Phoenix, Bowyer didn't even get to stick around long enough to break a sweat. He was in good company, one of 13 cars involved in a lap 65 accident. For the second straight week the 33 was taken out of the race, as an innocent bystander to some one else's foolishness. As a result, the number 33 team finds itself 21st in the points standings.
"It is early in the year and everybody is trying to get what they can," said Bowyer. "Certainly if people are wrecking, then it is too aggressive. There is no question about that. I thought we had a car that could win this race and for the second week in a row we are sitting here disappointed."
So now it's on to Las Vegas. Bowyer is pretty good at this track, with a top 5 and a pair of top 10s in 5 races. He will need to be great to make points, that are even more precious, thanks to the new points system.
"We've run well there." said Bowyer. "We've had a couple good calls that have put us in a situation when we ran second (March 2009). It's definitely a track we can get better at, but definitely not a track that we're a slouch at either."
You might have a little trouble finding Bowyer on the track this week. He's trading in the familiar yellow and black Cheerios/Hamburger Helper paint scheme for the black and orange colors of Wheaties FUEL. He ran this same paint scheme last season at Indianapolis and finished forth.
