Plenty of Kansas basketball fans remember Horizon League darlings Detroit. In KU's first game of the NCAA tournament last season the Jayhawks soundly defeated the Titans 65-50, advancing to play Purdue. It was Thomas Robinson who had the big game for KU posting 16 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.
Doug Anderson was the leading scorer for Detroit in that game and their center Eli Holman had a double-double. Anderson is still around for the Titans but he's the fourth overall in scoring for Detroit.
Ray McCallum is the focus for the Titans. Much like Doug McDermott of Creighton, McCallum is the son of the head coach and he's also the leading scorer on the team.
McCallum will play almost the entirety fo every game (37.1 min. per game avg.) and is averaging 18.7 points per game this season. McCallum ranks 22nd nationally in field goals made; McDermott is the number 1 overall leader nationally in that same statistical category.
Four Titans players average double-digits scoring this season making Detroit the 6th ranked team nationally in scoring offense, averaging right at 79 points per game.
Detroit comes into Koch Arena on a two-game winning streak and they've won 6 of their last 7 games. Their last loss was a 68-59 road loss at Green Bay on February 9th. That was the Titans' lowest point total this entire season.
