Increased bus fares approved by the Wichita City Council in July take effect Tuesday. The adult fare is now one dollar and seventy-five cents, fifty cents higher than the previous rate.
Youth and special fare rates are also up 50 cents. The increase affects multi-ride passes.
The fare increases are part of a city plan to cut five million dollars from Wichita's budget. The increased fare cost and cuts to bus services on holidays are expected to help the city re-coup the one million dollar transit budget deficit.
