Persistence has finally paid off for a southeast Kansas couple.

A husband and wife from Montgomery County won a $1,065,106 jackpot on a $2 Super Kansas Cash ticket Wednesday night. The winners, who asked not to be identified, said they have bought tickets for years.

“We’ve been playing Kansas Lottery games since the beginning of the lottery,” the winners said. “Our daughter always gave us a hard time about ‘wasting money.' Now, here we are!”

The couple will take home $745,574 after taxes.

They plan to pay off their bills, their kids' bills, make home repairs and put money in savings with their winnings.

The winners say they will continue to play the lottery as they always have.

“It’s fun – and you always have a chance to win,” they said.

The winners purchased their jackpot-winning ticket at Cherry Hill Express, 109 S. Olive, in Cherryvale. The store receives a $1,000 bonus from the Kansas Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning Super Kansas Cash ticket.
