Historic downtown cathedral reopens

A historic Wichita church is back open for business after a year-long renovation.

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Central and Broadway, closed in late 2011 for a face-lift. Upgrades include a new ceiling, altar, gym and meeting rooms. 

Fr. John Sherlock said the long process was worth the wait. 

"We are offering something to our people," he said. "We have been good stewards of the cathedral to pass it on to the next generation."

The renovation cost about $17 million.
