Voters in the Canton-Galva school district have approved a new $8.55 million school bond.

The measure passed with 62% of the vote. The bond means a net mill levy increase of 6.81 mills. It is currently 3 mills.

The district plans to reduce the number of schools in USD 419 from 3 to 2. The PreK through Grade 3 school will be expanded and go up until Grade 6.

The high school will also be expanded to include 7th and 8th grades. The district would eventually close the elementary school.

USD 419 expects the changes to save up to $200,000 per year.
