An effort to raise money for an injured Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy is coming together.

Wives of other officers hope to help the family cover expenses during the deputy’s recovery.

His name has not been released, but we know he’s a five year veteran of the department.

He was shot after a chase March 11th that ended in Butler County.  The deputy sustained eye injuries.

The suspect was also shot by Kansas Highway Patrol.  He is now out of the hospital in in jail.

The group raising money for the deputy says he is making a great recovery. The county is paying for the deputy's medical injuries related to the shooting, but the family has other expenses as a result of missed work.

“They are in very good spirits. They are grateful for the community…for everything they've done. They're feeling very blessed at this time we're able to do a fundraiser for his medical bills,” says Carrie Patton, a wife of a Wichita Police officer.

There several ways you can help.

Patton says Papa John’s plans to donate a portion of its proceeds for pizza sold March 26th and 27th.

There will be a volleyball tournament at Jersey’s Bar and Grill in April.

Shirts Plus in Derby is selling $10 dollar t-shirts.
