Three inmates at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility were hospitalized Tuesday after jailers say they tried to hang themselves simultaneously.
A corrections officer who was making rounds through the unilt found the inmates and called in a medical emergency. The inmates were taken to the prison's clinic for treatment.
Two of them were taken to a Wichita hospital because of their injuries. Prison officials expect one of them to be released back to the prison today, the other will remain hospitalized.
A fourth inmate was also taken to the clinic Tuesday after complaining of chest pains. That inmate was evaluated and returned to his cell.
The names of the inmates are not being released because of the pending investigation.
