An alleged drug dealer runs and tries to hide from police early Tuesday morning, but his hiding spot was occupied. Unlucky for him, someone was home at the time to alert the police. The whole ordeal startled the family.
“Frantic, terrified, disbelief, it's crazy.” Those are the words Vanessa Wadsworth uses to describe what happened at around 3:30am in the morning.
“I got a phone call from my mom saying someone had broken in her house last night” said Wadsworth.
Wichita police chased a man into a neighborhood on South Spruce after a possible meth deal. The suspect jumped a fence and got in through the family's unlocked backdoor. Vanessa Wadsworth’s brother couldn't see the man, but he heard this:
“He shined his phone in there and he heard heavy breathing and he was like "Is somebody here?"’
He heard someone making their way into their basement.
“He went to my mom's room and told her I think somebody's broke in the house and they heard all the sirens and everything outside and seen all the lights and stuff. My mom opened her bedroom window and yelled outside someone broke in the house!”’ said Wadsworth.
A trail of blood led police to a futon. Wadsworth says he was hiding underneath the mattress.
Wadsworth says this isn't the first time something like this has happened in this neighborhood, but now that it's happened to her family, she's going to take steps to make sure her family and house are safe.
“We're going to get some extra locks and stuff, maybe see about putting a light back there. This is right off the highway. This could happen anytime,” said Wadsworth.
She's just thankful police found the man and that her family is safe. Police arrested the 25 year old man- who had meth, scales, and cash in his possession. Before he got into the house, they chased him a half a mile away from his car. Police also arrested a seventeen year old girl who stayed in the car.
