A Wichita man with Downs syndrome is recovering after police say he was beaten with a hammer and screw driver.
The incident happened Friday night in the 300 block of South Meadow Haven.
Police say the victim's brother was worried about suspected abuse, so he went to the home to check it out. He found the 44-year-old victim with a broken finger, and several broken toes.
Police say the 37-year-old suspect is the victim's step father. They say the suspect smashed the victim's toes with a hammer, punched him in the left ear and hit his hand with a screwdriver breaking several fingers.
The victim's mother also lives in the home but was not arrested.The 37-year old faces charges of aggravated battery and abuse of a dependent adult.
