Departing clouds will be the story for most of the state overnight as lows dip down into the 20s. Southwest to southerly winds will develop at 5-10 mph.
Those winds will ramp up on Sunday, as some high clouds pass over the state. Temperatures will be well above normal for mid-February, as highs reach the 60s for most of Kansas. Some parts of the southwest will possibly hit 70 degrees! Thanks to the warmth and wind, extreme fire danger will be the worry over central and western Kansas Sunday afternoon.
The warmth won't last long, thanks to a cold front that will slip southeast Sunday night into early Monday morning. Highs on Monday will cool back to the 40s, along with breezy northwest winds.
Tuesday's weather looks quieter before a west coast system moves toward Kansas for the Wednesday and Thursday time frame. Gusty winds will transport moisture into the region, providing a chance of showers and storms in the warmer air over eastern Kansas. In the colder part of the system in central and western Kansas, a wintry mix and snow is possible, with some blowing snow thanks to the strong winds associated with this storm. You'll want to stay tuned to further updates on this system over the next few days as the details and the forecast path become a little more clear.
