A baby male giraffe named Neo is the newest attraction at the Hedrick Exotic Animal Farm and Bed & Breakfast in Nickerson.
Neo was born in late December. He already nearly five feet tall and weighs a hundred pounds.
Neo, and his mother Faola, live on the farm with the other members of their extended family.
Owners Joe and Sondra Hedrick say they chose to name him Neo because it means “gift” in Swahili. “We thought it was fitting for the Christmas season and his African heritage”, says Joe.
Hedrick Exotic Animal Farm invites people come for a tour or stay for the night. In addition to giraffes, other animals at the farm include zebras, kangaroos, eland antelope, indu-brazilan zebu, muntjac, yak, nilgai antelope, african-crested porcupine, ostrich, pot-bellied pig, alpaca, emu, wallaroo, african spur-thigh desert tortoise, dromedary camel, water buffalo, macaw, miniature horses and zedonk.
