JOHANNESBURG -- A woman was mauled by 2 cheetahs at a game reserve while her husband continued to snap photographs.
According to 'The Port Elizabeth Herald' Violet D'Mello of Scotland was attacked while in a petting pen with several children.
Her husband took photos of the attack, which were published by the local newspaper and others.
D'Mello says the group was having fun, petting and posing with the animals when the situation suddenly took a serious turn.
According to the Herald, one of two cheetahs in the enclosure grabbed a young girl.
While D'Mello tried to calm the child and her brother, the cats turned on her as well.
She told the BBC she had numerous bite and puncture marks, and that her scalp was "sliced open."
Her husband, Archibald DMello, kept taking pictures, documenting the horrific scene as the animals bit and scratched his wifes head, legs and stomach.
Park staff and other visitors pulled the cats off.
Despite her injuries, D'Mello defended the cats saying they "weren't being vicious. You could tell they were just excited."
