The second Friday of the winter season is here with hoops galore across the state. From regular season matchups, tournament games, and a down to the wire rivalry classic, catch your team in the Friday Girls Basketball Catch-All.
AVCTL Div. II
Crosstown rivals Andover and Andover Central locked up in a Backyard Brawl to remember. Central’s Evan Stamp led all scorers with 20 points on the night, with Skyler Snodgrass adding 13 for the Jaguars. But it was Andover who held tough to force an errant Central game-winning attempt for a 52-51 win for the Trojans. Jaylyn Agnew led Andover with 9 points with Lexi Tilson, Jolynn Hallmark, and Sydney Tilson all adding 8 points.
Goddard Eisenhower had no trouble picking up the second win in the program’s brief history with a 72-29 rout over Arkansas City, and Maize South handled Goddard 58-17.
AVCTL Div. I
Newton and Salina Central provided another back-and-fourth AVCTL nail-biter with the Railers fighting off the Mustangs 45-42. Abbie Lehman had a monster game with 20 points for Newton and teammate Taylor Stahly adding 11 points to the cause. Hailey Mayfield led Central with 12 points and Brooke Peters had 10.
Maize ran away with a 57-14 win over Hutchinson and Derby kept Campus at bay with a 60-50 win for the Panthers.
GWAL
Wichita East picked up its first win of the year with a convincing 51-19 win over Wichita North. Relina Johnson and Tori Span led the Blue Aces with Johnson scoring 15 points and Span close behind with 14. North had a tough time scoring with Jayden Dennis leading the team with 6 points.
Wichita South got back in the win column with a 43-31 win over Bishop Carroll to put the Titans above .500 at 2-1. Defending state champion Kapaun rolled Wichita Southeast 64-25, and fellow defending champion Wichita Heights dominated Wichita West 76-23.
Non-League
McPherson continues to rely on Katelyn Loecker as the Bullpups’ standout finished with 24 points and 13 rebounds in a 49-41 win over Topeka Washburn Rural. Abby Pedersen had a big game for McPherson as well with 16 points.
Salina South was able to nip Buhler 44-42, and Abilene edged Augusta 32-29.
In Pratt, Andale got a strong performance from Brittany Meyer to get a 49-40 win over the Greenbacks. Meyer ended with 23 points for the Indians. Rachel Eck was also in double figures with 10. Patyon Hoeme led the Greenbacks with 12 points.
Smoky Valley got a 57-50 win over Concordia, and Bluestem took out Flinthills 35-13.
Fairfield Tournament
Fairfield took advantage of a 12-point night from Brittany Carter to squeak by Otis-Bison 36-34. Kristen Roberts had 10 points for the Falcons.
Circle Tournament
Mulvane controlled host Circle to pick up a 59-44 win over the Thunderbirds. Elise Gerlach had 20 points for the Wildcats and KaSandra Melick added 15.
Garden Plain Tournament
After beating a tough Garden Plain team on Thursday, Hesston won again with a 58-40 victory over Rose Hill. Garden Plain bounced back with a 49-24 drubbing of Emporia.
Goessel Tournament
Host Goessel dominated Burrton 53-22 with a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double from Aleena Cook. Johanna Hoffman had a big game for the Bluebirds as well with 14 points on the night.
Hugoton Tournament
Southwestern Heights had a 19-point game from Nayelly LaPoint to nip Ulysses 47-44. Amanda Langley had 15 points in the loss for the Tigers.
Darrie Rogers had 16 points for Lakin in a narrow 45-40 win over Guymon, Okla.
Kingman Tournament
Wellington stopped host Kingman to get a 36-24 win.
Marion Tournament
Remington picked up a 45-34 win over Marion with a 13-point game from Kristyn Wedel. Rose Dollarhide had 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Broncos.
Berean got a ton of production from Xannie Quiring who dropped 20 for the Warriors in a 55-34 win over Eureka.
Moundridge Tournament
Hillsboro breezed by Lyons with a 51-28 win, and Moundridge beat rival Inman 57-40.
Rolla Tournament
Despite being shutout in the first quarter, Moscow held on to get a 36-31 win over Beaver, Okla. Kelsi Mueller led the Wildcats with 12 points.
