At any give time, someone at Central Plains Red Cross blood center is rolling up their sleeve.
Friday, more sleeves are going up then usual.
The surge comes after Thursday's shooting at Fort Hood.
Jennifer Keller with Red Cross says people just want to help.
Central Plains Red Cross sent 150 units of blood to scott and white hospital in Texas where some victims are recovering and they anticipate sending more.
Central Plains Red Cross was able to help because they had extra units of blood.
Lori Ramirez is one of those who is donating blood Friday.
She began donating back in high school.
She says she's happy to see people stepping up but hopes the rush sticks.
"This is something they can do all the time, they don't have to just do it in response to a tragedy," says Lori Ramirez.
Because tragedy or not Ramirez says she'll continue to come to the blood center and donate because she knows every pint of blood donated has the possibility of saving three lives.
