Area students students could receive their H1N1 vaccinations at their schools.
The Valley Center district emailed a survey to parents today asking them if their children would participate. Assistant Superintendent Penny Hargrove says enough parents have asked about a vaccination clinic for the district to gauge interest in the idea. Results will be available in a week and a half.
If officials decide to hold the clinic, it shouldn't cost the district much. Parents, teachers and health workers have all volunteered to help. Hargrove doesn't expect the Sedgwick County Health Department to charge for the vaccines.
On Monday the Goddard School Board will discuss whether to hold an H1N1 flu vaccination clinic on a Saturday. School administrators are recommending the idea. A spokesperson for the district doesn't know when when it would happened, if it does. She says that will depend on when the Sedgwick County Health Department can do it.
Administrators in Maize have already made the decision to hold the clinic, if it works out with the health department. A spokesperson says that one will also happen on a Saturday.
Wichita plans to hold the clinics in individual schools during the school days. A spokesperson for the district says it's an effort to vaccinate children who might not have transportation to a weekend clinic.
The Andover district has also expressed interest in holding an H1N1 Flu vaccination clinic.
