There are things you expect to hear on your favorite radio station, like music and commercials. But what if those commercials are people advertising themselves for jobs.
Clear Channel radio stations have started airing what they call Radio Resumes. They give people 15 seconds to list their job qualifications.
Something David Ingram jumped on right away. "I was making very good pay and the next day you're making minimum unemployment. It's kind of hard to rebound from that."
Ingram heard about the program while driving down the road. A few days later, it was his voice he heard making a job pitch.
"I've been told I got a distinguishing voice but it didn't sound like me."
The Radio Resume program is free and just started Memorial Day weekend, but already, Clear Channel listeners are listening up.
"We've had quite a few people indicate interest, now they've got to come back and there's some little details that they have to connect with us on, but we've got seven different Radio Resumes on the air right now," explains Pay Moyer, News Director for Clear Channel Wichita.
And as interest grows, Clear Channel hopes the success rate does as well. Moyer adds, "You try to make people feel better by talking about it and acknowledging they're not the only ones in that situation, but we'll see if this actually does something to help some people find a job."
Which is the exact outcome Ingram is hoping for. "It's very promising, unfortunately I haven't heard anything yet, but it's still fresh."
And there's nothing like a little airtime, to keep his name fresh in the mind of potential employers.
You can go to Channel 96.3's website or KZSN's website for more information on recording a resume or to look at the resumes that have been submitted.
