"The Dodgers" and "the second round" - the long awaited answers for Maize High's Garrett Gould, who's spent the past few months hearing speculation from all around on his baseball future.

Gould was selected 65th overall in Major League Baseball's first year player draft. It's the highest a Wichita area prep has been taken since Wellington's Nate Cornejo was a compensatory first round pick in 1999.

"It's always been my dream growing up. I think it's every kid who's played baseball's dream to play in the Major Leagues." he said. "Now that it's here it's definitely exciting to finally get to see all of my hard work pay off."

Gould - the Gatorade Player of the Year in the State of Kansas - had climbed the draft boards in recent weeks after a posting a 7-1 record and 0.88 ERA during the regular season. His fastball clocks in the low 90's by has run up as high as 94 miles per hour. But it's his devastating curveball that makes him stick out.

Gould has signed to play next year at Wichita State should he not receive the signing bonus that he's looking for. Gould told Eyewitness Sports today that he doesn't have an exact figure in mind, though he's talked in the past about wanting at least $1.1 million - first round money.

He calls the whole thing a win-win situation.

"If it doesn't work out, I'll go play next year for the best pitching coach in the country."
